The Wirral Autistic
Society has a commitment to ensuring that people with autistic spectrum
disorders are offered a high quality service, specifically targeted at their
unique disability. Wherever practical, preference will be given to people
within our catchment area, but this does not preclude applications from
elsewhere.
The Society’s
aims are to promote:-
-
Choice
To facilitate choice, review meetings, both formal and informal, take
place on a regular basis. At these meetings residents are encouraged to
make decisions about how they wish to live theirb lives. All aspects of
choice are discussed, including meals, recreation, holidays, relationships,
work and plans for the future. For those who are unable to participate
fully in such meetings, advocates are invited to speak on their behalf.
-
Independence
To encourage independence in each individual as far as is possible, and
according to their needs and potential.
-
Rights
To ensure that the rights and entitlements of the person with autism are
being met by the statutory sector. To provide a forum through which the
individual is made aware of his/her rights, and to increase awareness
amongst staff of these rights, and how best to safeguard and promote them.

Privacy/Dignity
To plan and develop residential facilities which create an environment
wherein the privacy and dignity of the individual are preserved. When
selecting staff, to ensure candidates are empathetic to our aims, by thoughtful
staff training, and by example.
To ensure that staff are trained not only
to meet the needs of the client group, but are also aware of the wider issues,
e.g., First Aid, Health & Safety, Food Hygiene, Fire Prevention, which
are essential to the overall well-being of the Society.
